General & Setup
How do I use the GPS and Speedometer widgets?
Enable Location Services for SplitRig in your iOS Settings. For the most accurate telemetry, ensure you have a clear view of the sky. The same permission powers the Distance, Altitude, Pace, and Goal Gauge widgets.
How do I enable the live overlay widgets?
Open SplitRig and tap Widgets in the bottom bar. Choose any combination of Speedometer, Distance, Duration, Altitude, Pace, Goal Gauge, Sound Level, or SplitRig Logo. Your selection is composited directly into the recording.
Is my data stored or shared?
No. SplitRig is a "client-side" application. Your video, audio, and location are processed locally in real-time. We never see or store your data on our servers. You can read more in our Privacy Policy.
Recording & Features
What is 'Action Cam' mode?
Action Cam is a specialized mode optimized for high-intensity movement (snowboarding, cycling, driving). The rear camera records at 60 fps with the steadiest stabilization level SplitRig offers, for smooth dual-camera footage in action-heavy sessions.
How does Face Mode (background removal) work?
SplitRig can automatically remove the background from your front-facing camera feed in real-time. This keeps you whole, placed over the rear-camera footage, perfect for "React" style videos or high-action vlogs where you want to stay in the frame without blocking the view.
Can I customize the layout?
Yes! Choose from four layouts: Picture in Picture (PiP), Split Screen, Face Mode, and Single Camera. In PiP mode, you can drag to move and pinch to resize the window anywhere on the screen during your recording, and Layout lets you make it a Rectangle or a Circle.
What other data can I display?
We are constantly expanding our Widget Library. Currently, you can display Speedometer, Distance, Duration, Altitude, Pace, Goal Gauge, Sound Level, and SplitRig Logo: all draggable, resizable, and baked into the recording. More widgets are in development.
Can I hide the on-screen sound level meter?
Yes. The meter is the Sound Level widget, and you can switch it off in the app. One switch takes it off both the screen and the recording.
Which frame rates does SplitRig record at?
SplitRig records at 24 or 30 fps, and at 60 fps in Action Cam (rear camera, 1080p). 24 fps gives a cinematic look and is the coolest-running choice for long sessions. 25 and 50 fps are not part of the app today.
Will SplitRig record portrait and landscape in one take?
It is planned: recording portrait and landscape in one take is on the SplitRig roadmap.
Performance & Hardware
My phone is getting warm. Is this normal?
Yes. Recording two cameras at once is real work for any iPhone, and SplitRig runs on a smart recording engine, optimized with Apple's native camera features, to give you the best professional performance possible. A few tips keep your iPhone cool on a long shoot: pick the Long Recording preset in Camera Settings, record in 1080p for the longest sessions, choose 24 fps (the coolest-running frame rate), and turn on Eco Mode under Settings → More Settings → General to dim the screen while you record. Keep the phone in the shade with air moving around it, and take the case off.
Is SplitRig a medical or professional navigation device?
No. All widgets (Speed, Distance, Altitude, Pace, Sound Level, etc.) are informational estimates provided for entertainment purposes only. SplitRig should not be used for medical monitoring or as a primary navigational tool.

When will RTMP streaming be available?
We are currently finalizing our pro-grade streaming engine. Soon, you will be able to broadcast your dual-camera rig, complete with widgets and interactive overlays, directly to YouTube, Twitch, and Facebook. Stay tuned!
